INVESTMENT CASTING
Properties of investment castings
Cosmos produces precision castings using the lost-wax technique. These castings have low surface roughness values, precise tolerances and are the highest quality steel castings available on the market. They are often used for components that operate in hostile environments, such as large differences in temperature or where the components are required to be especially hard, strong or light. To meet these tough demands, special alloys are often used for these castings.
Specifications
Properties | Description |
Shape tolerance: | Freedom in style and design |
Roughness: | High surface quality & low roughness values (Ra 1.6 – 6.3 µm) |
Dimensional tolerances: | Dimensional accuracy and precise tolerances (IS 11166 CLASS-II, VDG P690 D1) |
Blind Holes: | Can be cast if length does not exceed the diameter. |
Angles: | Angels depend on their location in the casting. They range from ±0.5° for well supported positions to ±2° where inherent distortion could be expected. |
Materials: | Virtually any steel alloy can be cast |
Complexity: | Complex shapes can be cast as a single component |
Machining: | Less machining is required compare to other cast method. |
Undercuts: | Products with undercuts can be cast |
Series: | Suitable for smaller and larger series |
Cosmos pours over 130 different alloys according to internationally accepted standards such as ASTM, DIN, JIS, IS and BS.
